A true story of love and adventure set in the time leading up to the second signing of the Treaty at Hokianga. This is a story of courage and perseverance and includes cameos of some of the Maori chiefs, chants and dancing which create the atmosphere.
The romantic interest is a young woman in love with John Hobbs and who later becomes his wife. Against her parents’ wishes she sets off by sailing ship to find him.
“John Hobbs” gives an insight into early New Zealand history and the interplay between Maori and Pakeha. It shows the development of trust and mutual understanding between the people in those early days, leading up to the Treaty of Waitangi and the second signing of the Treaty in the Hokianga.
